Why it may contain lead:

Prop 65: Californian lawmakers decided the public needs to know if their water supply contains toxic chemicals. So they compiled a list of 900 substances and required any business using those substances (including ingredients which contain the substances) to proclaim the use publicly. The way prop 65 is enforced has created a defensive business strategy: infringements can cost businesses $2,500 per day, and nearly all cases are reported by citizens motivated to earn as much as 25% of that fee by “blowing the whistle,” as it were. So when you see a prop 65 warning sign, the business might be using toxic chemicals, or they might simply have decided it’s cheaper to post a few labels than fight the civil lawsuits that prop 65 law firms might bring.

Tiny amounts of lead are in our planet’s water, soil, and air. Alone, lead molecules pose health risks. When bonded with other elements and compounds, which is the case with Redmond Clay, the bond is too strong for our bodies to break. Any bonded lead leaves the natural way, still bound to the same molecules as when we ingested it.
